New Year's Eve 'Wishing Wall' Unveiled In Times Square

Stop by Times Square in December to imprint your New Year's wish on a piece of confetti to be dropped on New Year's Eve.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Most New Yorkers know to avoid Times Square on New Year's Eve. It's usually cold, it's packed and spectators have to show up early and stand around for hours with no bathroom access to get a good view of the ball drop.

But there's a way New Yorkers can be in Times Square for New Year's without actually showing up in person. The Times Square Alliance announced that it will continue its "Wishing Well" initiative, which allows people to submit New Year's wishes to be printed onto pieces of confetti, for this year's New Year's Eve celebration.

The wishes imprinted on confetti will be dropped on the scores of spectators watching the ball drop live in Times Square, the organization announced.

"The New Year represents a "refresh" – a time for all of us to wish for a better future, as individuals and as one world," Tim Tompkins, resident of the Times Square Alliance, said in a statement. "The Wishing Wall provides people from every corner of the globe an opportunity to participate in a beloved Times Square New Year’s Eve tradition and take part in our global celebration."

People can submit their wishes by visiting the "Wishing Wall" located at Times Square’s Broadway plaza between West 46th and 47th streets, every day until December 29 from 11:00 a.m. to 8 p.m., the Times Square Alliance announced. Wishes can also be submitted online at the Times Square Alliance's website and on Twitter and Instagram using #ConfettiWish.

"As the clock strikes midnight and confetti floats down onto the million revelers below, you will be able to catch someone’s wish, making for a truly magical moment."
