The "minor slow speed train derailment" occurred around 6:45 p.m. and forced NJ Transit to suspend service in and out of New York.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — An NJ Transit train derailed shortly after departing from Penn Station on Thursday night, forcing the transit agency to suspend service in and out of New York City.

The "minor slow speed train derailment" occurred around 6:20 p.m. after the train left Penn Station and before it entered the Hudson River tunnel, an NJ Transit spokesman said. One set of wheels on one car flew off the tracks, the spokesman said.

About 900 to 1,000 passengers and crew were aboard the train when it derailed, but nobody was inside the car that derailed, an NJ Transit spokesman said. Nobody on board the train was injured, the spokesman said.
