Cop Says Port Auth Refused Him Job Because He lives With Parents

The 28-year-old NYPD cop sued the Port Authority for rejecting his job application.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A New York City Police Officer is suing the Port Authority Police Department over a failed job application from 2017, according to reports.

The Port Authority's reasoning for not hiring the cop — he still lives with his parents.

Adam Kotowski, 28, was denied the high-paying gig with the Port Authority because he displayed an "inability to be forthcoming, immaturity, lack of interpersonal skills and bland affect," a therapist hired to evaluated him for the Port Authority wrote in a report acquired by the New York Post. The fact that Kotowski "still lives at home with his parents and . . . contributes nothing toward housing or food expenses," also affected the decision.

The NYPD officer assigned to the Midtown North precinct decided to sue the Port Authority and blamed a "personality conflict" with his interviewer for not getting the job. Kotowski claims that because he passed the NYPD's psychological tests he should be qualified for the Port Authority job, the Post reported.

As for living with his parents: The cop claimed he's doing it with their "blessing" in order to save money to buy his own home and start a family, the Post reported.

The outcome of the case doesn't look good for the homebody cop. Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Nancy Bannon wrote that because the Port Authority Police Department and the NYPD are different entities, the Port Authority has the right to use its own criteria to determine fitness for the job, the Post reported.

Unfortunately for Kotowski, nabbing the Port Authority job could've given him the opportunity to leave the nest. Port Authority Police officers are paid an average of $83.99 an hour compared to the NYPD's average of $58.86 an hour, the Post reported.
