Union Square Shooter Robbed Bank 10 Minutes Earlier, Police Say
The man who shot a subway passenger near 14th Street on Monday had just robbed a bank and tried to rob someone on Sunday, police said.

Update, 4:47 p.m.: a suspect was arrested Tuesday afternoon hours after allegedly robbing another Manhattan bank, police said.
MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — The man who shot a subway passenger at Union Square on Monday during an attempted robbery had also committed a bank heist just minutes earlier, police said.
Monday's shooting happened just before 5 p.m. in the middle of rush hour, when a 42-year-old man riding a northbound N train was approached by another man who took out a gun and asked for his cell phone.

As the victim took out his phone, the suspect shot him in the thigh and got off the train as it pulled into Union Square, police said.
Just 10 minutes before the shooting, the same man walked into a TD Bank on Canal Street in Lower Manhattan. He walked up to the counter, took out his gun and told an employee, "I have a gun, give me cash," police said.

The employee handed over about $1,100 in cash and the man fled east along Canal Street, police said.

One day earlier, on Sunday, the same man walked into a deli on Lexington Avenue and East 41st Street and approached a man from behind as he ordered food. The suspect demanded the man's property while lifting up his shirt to show a gun in his waistband, police said.
When the victim took out his wallet, he handed the man about $45 in cash, to which he replied, "That's it?" police said. The suspect left the deli without taking the man's money and walked toward Grand Central Station.
Police on Tuesday released surveillance footage showing the man at the scene of all three robberies.
