Bicyclist Struck, Seriously Injured By Pickup In Suffolk: Police

He was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said.

SOUND BEACH, NY — A bicyclist was struck by a pickup truck and seriously injured in Sound Beach on Friday afternoon, Suffolk police said.

The man was riding east on the North Shore Rail Trail, when he stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Hallock Landing Road, and as he rode through, he was struck in the crosswalk by a 1997 Ford Super Duty truck traveling southbound, at around 4:35 p.m., according to police.

The 20-year-old from Miller Place was airlifted by police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said.

The truck's driver a 27-year-old from Riverhead was not injured, according to police.

The Motor Carrier Safety Unit responded and completed a safety inspection of the truck.
