North Brookhaven Chamber Awards $6,500 in Scholarships

Chamber recognizes seven graduating high school seniors and awards scholarships.

The North Brookhaven Chamber recently recognized seven graduating
high school seniors, presenting them with scholarships awards totaling $6500.00.

The 2012 Scholarship requests had the highest submission of applicants, according to Chamber President Joel DeGregorio.

“The recipient we selected had personal submissions that out-shined all the
others," DeGregorio said. "They all found time to assist in their community and school activities and still maintain high academics and stay focused on their future goals.”

  • Jessica Grippe, Mt Sinai H.S.
  • Justin Bakewicz, Rocky Point H.S.
  • Sarah Dembek, Comsewogue H.S.
  • Christopher Argento, Miller Place H.S.

Also recognized with a scholarship was North Brookhaven Member’s Award winner Thomas A. Ianniello. For the first time, the Chamber presented Runner-Up Awards to Devin Yancey, Alexandra Francis and David Grier.

The funds used to make these awards possible are raised annually by the Chamber through community events like the Cedar Beach Carnival in May and the upcoming Blues Festival in September.

Over 200 businesses and organizations from Port Jefferson Station, Terryville, Mt. Sinai, Miller Place, Rocky Point, Sound Beach and other surrounding communities form the chamber membership.

“Our Chamber is dedicated to giving back to the community and helping promote local businesses,” said Chamber V.P. Donna Boeckel of Awsomotive Car Care in Mt. Sinai.
