Tides Beach Closed Saturday Due To Bacteria: Suffolk County
It was the 67th time a beach was closed this week in Suffolk.

ROCKY POINT, NY — Tides Property Owners Association Beach in Rocky Point is closed to bathing due to the finding of bacteria above acceptable criteria, Suffolk health department officials said Saturday.
Ronkonkoma Beach in the Town of Islip is also still closed.
Suffolk closed 64 beaches earlier this week, however, some have reopened. Tides Beach was closed Thursday and then reopened. Its closure again on Saturday would make it the 67th time a beach was closed.

The beaches will reopen when further testing reveals that the bacteria have subsided to acceptable levels, officials said.
County health commissioner Dr. Gregson Pigott said bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
