Whiz Kid: Miller Place Senior Ready to Pursue Engineering Degrees
Daniel Lynch will attend Rochester Institute of Technology in the fall.

Name: Daniel Lynch - Age 18
School: Miller Place High School - 12th grade
Accomplishments: Daniel is an honor roll student who will have taken ten Advanced Placement (A.P.) courses and one college level Spanish course prior to his graduation next month. He has been recognized as an A.P. Scholar with Distinction by the College Board and was the recipient of his high school's Award for Excellence in Business Ownership and Marketing and the Award for Excellence in Computer Aided Design.
The senior is a member of the National Honor Society and the Robotics Team. He was recognized by his high school as a 'JUST' person in a school campaign of character traits. He played goalie on the Junior Varsity soccer team as a ninth grader, and has been on the school district's Mathlete Team for the past seven years, this year serving as team captain, and is an accomplished chess player, chess coach and chess mentor.
As a fifth grader, Daniel was recognized as a Long Island Young Math Scholar by The Institute of Creative Problem Solving for Gifted and Talented Students. He has competed in the International Math Kangaroo Competition at Stony Brook University for the past three years, placing 5th in NYS in 2012, 3rd in state in 2011 and 16th in the nation in 2010. He twice competed in the American Mathematical Competition at Brookhaven National Laboratories, earning the silver award in 2009 and the bronze award in 2012.
At Princeton University's Math Challenge, Daniel received First Place Power Round, First in Division for 2012 and was an American Invitational Mathematics Qualifier in 2013. He has been a Museum of Mathematics competitor since 2011, competing at MIT and Princeton University. His math skills compelled him to seek higher level math courses at Stony Brook University while still a student at Miller Place High School, and he currently has two undergraduate courses under his belt from the university. He has participated in Brookhaven National Laboratory's Gifted Math Program since 2007 as well as their Open Research summer program.
Lynch had the honor of participating in the Johns Hopkins Marine Science Research Program, where he did crab research for a number of weeks on the Chesapeake Bay. He also participated in the Math Path Gifted Mathematics Summer Research Program at the University of Vermont.
Outside of his math and science endeavors, he was a first place winner in the 25th Annual Port Jefferson Harbor Cup Regatta last June, has been a competitive sailor with the Mount Sinai Sailing Association for the past five years and has also been fencing since 2009. Lynch has volunteered his time with the American Littoral Society, American Cancer Society, Joe Keany Memorial Run, as a student mentor, math tutor and has assisted a Boy Scout troop with fundraising and community service efforts.
He was awarded a summer internship with Tarsia Technical Industries, an engineering firm and will attending college at the Rochester Institute of Technology where he plans to obtain his bachelors and masters degrees in their five year engineering program, with a minor in business.
