Yonkers Opens Up Affordable Housing Waitlist For 1st Time In 10 Years
The deadline to apply is July 13. The lottery will be held on August 2 and 3. Up to 3,000 qualified applicants could be added to the list.
YONKERS, NY — The Municipal Housing Authority for the City of Yonkers (MHACY) announced on Monday that for the first time in over 10 years, they are opening up the waitlist for Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8 Affordable Housing).
MHACY is seeking to add up to 3,000 qualified applicants to the list, to be awarded vouchers based on preference and availability. The vouchers are provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
“Housing is key to the vitality of any city. In addition to the thousands of units of new market rate housing that are going up, we have renovated MHACY housing and are now making more affordable housing available through the use of these vouchers in partnership with building owners,’’ said Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano. “This three-prong approach ensures that we provide a full-spectrum of housing, and renew our commitment to provide safe, affordable housing for working families.’’
