Free Tax Prep Offered For Rockland Mid- And Low-Income Residents
The program runs until April 15 at 12 sites around the county. Assistance is on a first come first serve basis. No appointment is necessary.
ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — Free tax preparation for middle- and low-income Rockland residents is being offered again this year. The United Way of Rockland County and AARP have again teamed up to expand their outreach and help people receive the tax credits for which they are eligible.
Last year more than $1 million was returned in Earned Income Tax Credits and Child Care Tax Credits in Rockland County.
Needs are greater than ever, and “The goal is to increase the EITC/Child Care Tax Credit dollar number every year,” said Dana Treacy, President and CEO of the United Way. “Not only do the refunds bring added relief to struggling residents, but most dollars are spent in the county and thus support the local economy.”

The service offered is free tax preparation by IRS Certified AARP Tax-Aide volunteers to all taxpayers with middle and low incomes, including those who qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit. They call the program CASH – Creating Assets, Savings and Hope.
The United Way’s CA$H program underscores its commitment to help Rockland residents attain financial stability at a time when the gap between take home wages and essential expenses is growing rapidly.
