UPDATED: Nanuet Among EMS Providers Honored By County

Rockland County thanked its EMS providers and individual agency members of the year at an awards ceremony on Sunday that included an EMS youth squad EMS competition.  Nanuet Community Ambulance volunteer chosen as Youth Member of the Year. 

Rockland recognized 18 EMS Agency Members of the Year for their lifesaving contributions:

·      Nyack Community Volunteer Ambulance Corps - Deirdre Denehey

10 awards were presented to Rockland County EMS Providers of the Year:

      Advanced Life Support Provider of the Year - Glenn Albin, South Orangetown Volunteer Ambulance Corps  
·      Youth Member of the Year  -Katherine Zoda, Nanuet Community Volunteer Ambulance Corps  
 ·      EMS Agency of the Year - Piermont Fire Dept. EMS 13-EM·      EMS Leadership Award -Teresa “Teri”  Hamilton, Haverstraw Volunteer Ambulance Corps  
·      EMS Educator of Excellence - Ralph “Lee” Sentell, Rockland County EMS  
·      EMS Communications Specialist of the Year - Adam C. Feuer, Sheriff’s Communications
·      Registered Professional Nurse of Excellence - Linda Dietterich RN, Good Samaritan Hospital  
·      Physician of Excellence - Joan Facelle MD, FAAP, Health Department Commissioner  
·      Excellence in EMS Quality and Safety - South Orangetown Volunteer Ambulance Corps

Nanuet’s Wallenstein was honored for her 24 years of continuous service, which includes the past four as president.  

“I am very proud to serve the community all these years but I am most proud of all our members for their continuing dedication to our neighbors and yesterday I was thrilled and so proud of our Youth Corps,” she said.

The Nanuet youth corps earned third place trophies for their scenarios at the competition, which included a trauma situation and a medical emergency. The team members included: Matthew Zoda, Jon Brown, Jake Conlon, Kelly Ball, Annemarie Hahnenfeld, Cathy Smith, Holly Mojica, Ally Serra, Bethany Gruskin, and Elena Roemish.

Dan Rausa and Eric Roemish were the team’s advisors.  

“Their performance at the competition bear testament to the hard work they put in over the past several months,” said Rausa.
    
Senior Corps members also helped train the youth corps during their shifts.    

Katherine Zoda of Nanuet was selected as the Rockland County EMS Youth Member of the Year and also chosen as the Hudson Valley Regional EMS Youth Provider of the Year for 2012.    

Rausa said, “She represents the spirit of the youth corps and has a true passion for EMS and community service.  Like many of our other members, we are happy to see her continue her service with Nanuet Ambulance as a senior member who began volunteering as a youth member.”
