Nanuet Little League Opening Day Is Saturday

The day's activities begin with a parade to the fields, opening ceremonies and games

 

The Nanuet Little League marks its 54th season on Saturday morning with the long-standing tradition of players, managers and coaches marching from the George Miller Elementary School to the Lake Nanuet complex. The parade begins at 8 a.m. and the long line of marchers on tee-ball, softball and baseball teams will proudly display their banners as they make their way along Blauvelt Road onto Lake Nanuet Drive and Wilhelm Field by 8:30 a.m. for opening day ceremonies. Following the ceremonies, the games will begin at 9:30 a.m. 

For those planning to attend, coaches and managers will arrive at Miller between 7:15 and 7:30 a.m. Players should be dropped off between 7:30 and 7:45 a.m. Drivers are advised to use approach the school from Church Street. Clarkstown police will close Blauvelt Road on Saturday morning for the event.

The parade starts at 8 a.m. with approximately 500 players marching to the opening ceremonies, which will include speeches, presentations and the first official pitch of the season. Board of Directors member Dan Mazzaro said the 15 to 20 minute ceremony will include acknowledgements of local companies that stepped up with sponsorships and donations of services to help repair the fields after Hurricane Sandy and renovate the concession stand. Boulder Bird, the Rockland Boulders' mascot, will make a special appearance.

"We want to get everybody excited for the new season that's going to start," said Mazzaro.

Immediately following the ceremonies, games will begin with tee-ball, softball AA, AAA, Major and baseball A, AA, AAA, Minor and Major teams taking to various fields. Team and player photos will be taken from 9 a.m. through 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The Nanuet Little League offers programs for boys and girls ages 5 to 18 and is a member league of N.Y. District 18 of Little League, Inc.
