Nanuet Voters Guide 2023: Local, Regional Elections

NANUET, NY — Voting starts Saturday in the 2023 general election, which features local races. Registered voters in Nanuet don’t have to wait until Nov. 7 to cast their ballots — there will be nine early-voting days before the General Election.

On the ballot

Propositions

There will be two state-wide constitutional amendment proposals on the ballot this year. Both involve debt limits for local governments and school districts.

The first removes the special constitutional debt limitation now placed on small city school districts, so they will be treated the same as all other school districts. The second extends for 10 years the authority of counties, cities, towns, and villages to remove debt for the construction of sewage facilities from their constitutional limit.

Hudson Valley

There is an election for Supreme Court Justice in the 9th Judicial District. Vote for four.

Rockland County

County-wide, District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh, Sheriff Louis Falco and Family Court Judge Christopher Exias are running unopposed for re-election.

There are elections for every seat on the Rockland Board of Legislators, but only nine are contested races.

Longtime lawmakers Harriet Cornell, Chris Carey and Laurie Santulli, who have represented parts of Clarkstown, are not seeking re-election, nor are two others: Michael Grant, D-Haverstraw and Vincent Tyer, R-Orangetown.

In District 10, Beth Davidson and Ray Francis are vying for Cornell's seat. In District 11, David R. Bruen and Will Kennelly seek Santulli's seat. Raymond W. Sheridan III is running unopposed in Carey's district.

For town supervisor, George Hoehmann seeks re-election, having had the town's term limits law overturned. Town Clerk Justin Sweet is challenging him.

Absentee ballots

Absentee ballots may be returned in person to the Board of Elections during regular business hours. A secure drop box is located outside the office main entrance at 11 New Hempstead Road in New City for after-hours drop off.

Absentee Ballots may also be returned via mail or dropped off at a polling place during early voting and on election day. After hours return is not available on Election Day. The deadline to return your ballot is 9 p.m. The ballot box kiosk will be closed and locked promptly at 9 p.m. on the day of the General Election.
