People to People Earns Four-Star Rating For Fiscal Management

Charity Navigator gave People to People its second consecutive four-star rating

People to People, Rockland’s largest food pantry, earned its second consecutive four-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s premier charity evaluator, for its fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency.

Less than 20 percent of the charities rated have received back-to-back four-star ratings.

“Only 17% of the charities we rate have received at least two consecutive four-star evaluations, indicating that People to People outperforms most other charities in America,” said Ken Berger, president and chief executive office of Charity Navigator.

People to People Executive Director Diane Serratore said she was thrilled to learn of the rating on Thursday.

“This is an incredible accomplishment,” she said.

According to Berger, receiving four out of a possible four stars indicates that People to People adheres to good governance and other best practices that reduce the chance of unethical activities.

“This is an awesome accomplishment and one of which we should be extremely proud,” said Joe Allen, People to People Board president. “This is such a reflection on People to People Executive Director Diane Serratore and her staff as well as our great volunteers.”

Serratore said the recognition was equally earned by the non-profit's board of directors, staff and volunteers for their commitment.

“This rating demonstrates to the thousands of donors who support People to People’s efforts that their money is well placed and is used wisely and efficiently to do good work,” Serratore said.

More than 95 percent of all donations go directly to providing People to People's programs and services. Less than five percent of funds raised are spent on its operations.

People to People is one of three Rockland non-profits that have received four-stars from Charity Navigator, the others are United Hospice of Rockland and Jewish Federation of Rockland.

People to People is Rockland’s largest food pantry and provides more than 1,100 families with groceries, produce, dairy and meat or poultry products every month.  In addition, People to People works to help an ever-increasing number of struggling Rocklanders through difficult times with dignity by providing clothing, school supplies, holiday gifts and more.
