Jean Cappiello started Cookie Tray in 2011 after a very good friend came down with breast cancer and she wanted to help in some way. Cappiello donates 15 percent of the sales of her gourmet cookies and cupcakes to cancer charities.
Her Nanuet based business does not have a storefront location yet Cappiello, also a district teacher, hopes to have one in September. Her cookies and cupcakes can be shipped anywhere in the country or serve as the theme of a child’s birthday party.
“We have cupcake parties, where we’ll come to your house.” said Cappiello. “We supply the cupcakes and cookies and you supply the kids. You’ll have a hassle free, easy birthday party.”
Younger partygoers can frost and decorate regular and mini sized cupcakes during 90-minute parties. Ten to 11 year old party guests can learn how to decorate their cupcakes with a themed design. Party costs start at $175 or $200 depending upon the age group for 10 little bakers.
The cupcake selection includes traditional chocolate and vanilla, which can be made gluten-free, plus cookie dough filled, key lime pie, red velvet, strawberry and lime and sugar and cinnamon graham cracker. Cookies choices range from classic chocolate chip to chocolate chip with oatmeal and raisins or with M&Ms with special occasion designs. There are also cupcakes in a jar in a variety of flavors.
Cookie Tray offers Little Baker Cooking Classes. Cappiello displayed samples of her colorful cookies and cupcakes at the sixth annual Nanuet Family Festival on Saturday where she joined several dozeparticipating community vendors.
