Construction Worker Killed In Queens Demolition Site Accident
A construction worker was killed and another was injured after a Queens demolition site collapsed midday Thursday, the FDNY says.
JAMAICA, QUEENS — One construction worker is dead and another was seriously hurt after a Queens demolition site collapsed, officials said.
The incident unfolded just before noon Thursday at a construction site on 94th Avenue near Sutphin Boulevard, according to a Fire Department spokesperson.
By the time EMS arrived at the site, one worker was already dead. First responders rushed the surviving victim to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in serious condition, the FDNY said.

Engineers and inspectors for the Department of Buildings are investigating what caused the collapse.
“Any loss of life on a construction site is a tragedy, and our engineers and inspectors are already on site conducting a thorough investigation," Department of Buildings Commissioner Melanie E. La Rocca said. "We want to assure the families of the victims that we will hold all responsible parties accountable to the fullest extent of the law."

The property owner got approval in November 2019 to demolish the three-story building on the site, at 147-07 94th Ave.
Workers began razing the building last month, Department of Buildings records show.
