4 Mother's Day Gifts That Scream 'Only In New York'
Nothing says "I love you, Mom, and I'm sorry I'm such a disappointment" like a visit to The Museum of Failure.
NEW YORK CITY — Face it, sometimes New York City is a place only your very New Yawk mother can love.
Sure, she'll complain about the rats, cockroaches, garbage, the friggin' subways and the good-for-nothing mayor, but ask her to leave the city? Fuhgeddaboutit.
Such a special mother deserves an "only in New York" gift this Mother's Day. (And, maybe, so do moms who for some reason live places that aren't the Greatest City in the World.)

A visit to The Museum of Failure

Nothing says "Happy Mother's Day! I'm sorry I'm such a disappointment" like a visit to The Museum of Failure.
The roving museum in Brooklyn's Industry City is a collection of failed products and services from around the world.
In other words, make mom forget your "career" as an improv comedian by reminding her that Coke II existed.
And there are 158 other failures on display that'll make you look like Elon Musk (i.e., successful, but not necessarily in control) by comparison.
Tickets for Mother's Day were still for sale as of publication. You can buy them and get more information here.
The museum itself closes June 18.
Glamping on Governors Island
Here's a gift that exemplifies "it's the thought that counts."
Collective Governors Island is a luxury set of glamping (AKA glamorous camping) tents on the island in New York Harbor.

Just read this description from its website:
"Collective Governors Island offers the sort of grown-up summer-camp experience you’d ordinarily drive to the Catskills to find, accompanied by live entertainment and cocktails on the Sunset Terrace. Tents feature air conditioning, en suite bathrooms, Frette robes, and high-end bath products, and the top-end Outlook Shelter is a cabin-like structure with an indoor soaking tub facing the Statue of Liberty."
Sounds like a perfect luxe experience for Mother's Day, right?
Too bad! (Maybe.)
The booking site shows only a handful of openings for Mother's Day starting at $474 a night, so you'd best move fast.
Our suggestion: tell your mom you tried to book her a glamping excursion on Governors Island but couldn't. Then proudly display tickets for The Museum of Failure. Hopefully she'll laugh.
$200 worth of Russ & Daughters
Forget to book Mother's Day brunch?
No worries, just fork over $195 to Goldbelly's "New York Brunch" — a figurative and literal schmear of foods from the famed Russ & Daughters.
The description says it all: "Any New Yorker (current or former) or food lover will go wild for this mouth-watering spread: New York’s finest Nova, all natural cream cheese, hand-rolled bagels, chocolate babka, and Private Blend coffee with a Russ & Daughters mug."

A New York Public Library reading room scarf
Unless we're talking about Jared Leto at this year's Met Gala, New York City exudes class and culture.
And few places do more than New York Public Library.
Here's the gift for moms who love libraries and want to look like a library: a $125 scarf patterned after the library's iconic Rose Main Reading Room.
The scarf mimics the room's celestial mural, ornate rosettes and recessed panels embellished with classical motifs, according to the scarf's description. Oh, and it's made in Italy too.
"Our elegant reproduction will bring sophistication and glamour to your look," the description states.
