7,500-Spot Waitlist Opens For East Harlem Apartment Complex

The Riverton Square apartment complex in East Harlem is accepting applications for 7,500 spots on its waiting list.

EAST HARLEM, NY — An East Harlem residential complex is now accepting applications to be placed on a waiting list for apartments being offered at below market rate – though to get a place you need to be making 110 percent of the neighborhood's median income.

The Riverton Square development — located between West 135th and 138th streets from Fifth Avenue to the East River — will randomly select 7,500 applications for its waiting list. The waiting list is for one-, two- and three-bedroom units offered at rents of $1,968, $2,362 and $2,729 per month.

The units are being offered to individuals and families earning 110 percent of the area median income. An individual or family of two must make a minimum combined salary of $69,416 to be eligible for a one-bedroom unit, a family of up to four people must make a minimum combined salary of $82,971 to be eligible for a two-bedroom unit and a family of up to six people must make a minimum combined salary of $96,137 for be eligible for a three-bedroom unit.

To apply for a spot on the waiting list, prospective tenants must use the city's housing connect website. Applications can also be submitted by mail by sending a completed application to: Riverton Apts, 93 4th Avenue, Box 780, New York, NY 10276.

Applications will be accepted up until Jan. 2, 2018, according to the housing connect website.

Applicants that are selected onto the 7,500 spot waiting list will be on the list for two years, according to the housing connect website. When an apartment opens up, qualified members of the list will be selected for interview.

After two years, Riverton Square will hold a new lottery and refresh its waiting list.
