Accused Subway Shooter Frank James Plans Guilty Plea, Lawyers Say
James is scheduled for a Jan. 3 hearing to change his not guilty plea on charges from the mass subway shooting, court documents state.

NEW YORK CITY — Accused subway shooter Frank James plans to plead guilty to terrorism and other charges related to the April attack, according to newly filed court documents.
James' attorneys filed a letter Wednesday in federal court requesting a hearing for him to admit his guilt.
"Mr. James has advised undersigned counsel that he wishes to schedule a guilty plea to the superseding indictment," the letter states. "If the Court is available, we wish to proceed during the first week of January 2023."

A judge responded by scheduling a change of plea hearing for Jan. 3.
James, 62, had previously maintained his innocence in the April 12 mass shooting.

Authorities said James was the masked man who ignited smoke grenades on a crowded R train in a Sunset Park station and began shooting. Bullets hit 10 straphangers and many were injured in the chaos, but miraculously no one died.
