Bike Pumps Fitted Next To Cycle Lanes To Help 2-Wheeled Commuters Stay Inflated

The pumps are near the Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges.

NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. – Bike pumps are being fitted next to heavily used cycle paths to make it easier for two-wheeled commuters to stay inflated.

The city Department of Transportation on Wednesday tweeted pictures of workers installing pumps near the Brooklyn side of the Manhattan Bridge and the Manhattan side of the Williamsburg Bridge.

A department spokesman told Gothamist another pump will come soon to the St. George Staten Island Ferry terminal.

The program comes as the number of cyclists in the city has grown 150 percent since the 1990s, Gothamist said.

DOT is reportedly planning to install more pumps around the city.
