Boy, 5, Killed By Driver Outside Queens Playground
Five people, including the boy, were killed in weekend traffic crashes across Queens, police said.

QUEENS, NY — A 5-year-old boy was struck and killed by an SUV driver during a deadly weekend on Queens' streets, police said.
The child was among five people — including one hit by an NYPD cop — who died in crashes across the borough, authorities and advocates said.
"No one should fear death or serious injury on our streets, and we are devastated that traffic violence continues to rise, especially in Queens," said Danny Harris, executive director of Transportation Alternatives, in a statement.

The boy died Saturday evening after a 25-year-old woman driving a Honda CRV struck him outside Poppenhusen Playground in College point, police said.
Investigators believe the woman pulled out from a parking space along 124th Street and hit the boy when he ran out between two parked cars, authorities said.

The woman remained on the scene and did not get arrested, police said.
The crash unfolded just hours before an NYPD officer responding to a 911 call hit a 23-year-old pedestrian on the Van Wyck Expressway near Archer Avenue, authorities said.
The cop had the car's lights and sirens activated as the man tried to cross the expressway early Sunday, police said.
Other weekend crashes included two people killed by a hit-and-run driver — as first reported by ABC7 — and a motorist, Manuel Torres, 22, who died after his Mercedes struck three vehicles and overturned, police said.
Queens is now tied for the borough's deadliest year to date for traffic deaths under Vision Zero, advocates said.
