Celebrating 4th Of July In NYC Will Cost You

Only two cities are more expensive when it comes to celebrating Independence Day, according to the website HomeToGo.

NEW YORK, NY — Just about everything costs more in New York City — even the nation's birthday. The Big Apple is the third most expensive city for celebrating the Fourth of July, according to a new analysis by HomeToGo.

The vacation rental website calculated the cost of several typical Independence Day items, including food and drink, an American flag, sparklers, gas and accommodations, for its top 21 July 4 destinations.

The goods cost a total of $134.79 in New York City, the third-highest price on the list. The cost of HomeToGo's food and drink items — which included milk, bread, eggs, beef, beer and others — ranked No. 2 at $20.70.

Only Los Angeles and New Orleans were more expensive, with total prices of $153.33 and $161.84, respectively.

New Yorkers looking for a cheap holiday getaway should head to San Antonio, the most affordable city on HomeToGo's list. Revelers there pay just $76 for the Independence Day supplies.

But New York does have an enormous fireworks display over the East River — which is always free to watch.
