Central Park Sex Attacker Indicted On Charges: DA

Jermaine Longmire, 43, has been charged with one count of attempted rape and one count of sexual abuse, prosecutors said.

NEW YORK CITY — A 43-year-old man has been indicted for sexually assaulting a woman in Central Park late last month, prosecutors announced Wednesday.

Jermaine Longmire is accused of exposing himself to a 21-year-old woman who was sunbathing in the park near West Drive and West 104th Street around 1:30 p.m. last Monday, according to NYPD officials.

Police reported that the woman screamed as Longamire approached and tried to escape, but before she could run, he tackled her from behind and attempted to assault her.

The victim managed to violently fight off her attacker for a second time, eventually causing him to flee, police said.

Longmire has been charged with one count of attempted rape and one count of sexual abuse, prosecutors said.

"As alleged, Jermaine Longmire attempted to rape a woman in Central Park while she was sunbathing last month. Our parks should be a place where New Yorkers can relax without fearing for their safety, and this alleged conduct will not be tolerated,” said District Attorney Alvin Bragg in a statement.
