Last year, Brooklyn dominated the list," the study states. "It does this year, too — but the borough’s popularity has spread even further, to the neighborhoods next door to last year’s entries. For example, this year we see Gowanus instead of Park Slope."
StreetEasy compiled the list based off what buyers, renters and sellers wanted this year, according to the study. Those were ranked by increases in sales prices, rents and user searches year-over-year.

And Manhattan's hottest neighborhoods also turned out to be some of its most expensive, the study found. Greenwich Village and Flatiron both ranked, in addition to Soho.
Brooklyn's DUMBO, Red Hook, Gowanus, Bushwick and Fort Greene were all on the list.
Kew Gardens Hills in Queens and Fordham in the Bronx were not only the two neighborhoods out of Manhattan and Brooklyn, they also have the cheapest rents on the list — below $2,000 typically, according to the study.
Here is the ranking:

- DUMBO, Brooklyn
- Greenwich Village, Manhattan
- Red Hook, Brooklyn
- Gowanus, Brooklyn
- Flatiron, Manhattan
