De Blasio: Updated Mask Rules To Come Monday
The mayor said he'll have "a lot more to say" next week, days after the CDC began advising vaccinated people wear masks in high-risk places.

NEW YORK CITY — Mayor Bill de Blasio plans to release new mask-wearing guidelines for New York City on Monday – nearly a week after the Centers for Disease Control began recommending vaccinated people mask up indoors in areas with high virus transmission.
At his daily press briefing, the mayor said he'll have "a lot more to say" on Monday, without going into further detail.
City employees are currently advised to wear masks whenever they come in contact with unvaccinated people, de Blasio said, and face coverings are mandated in schools and hospitals, on mass transit and in congregate settings.

Unvaccinated New Yorkers are still advised to wear a face covering in indoor public settings, de Blasio said, in keeping with CDC guidelines.
The mayor emphasized the importance of vaccinations during his briefing, saying "if we're not talking about vaccination, we're not solving the problem."

"We want to make sure we send the right message, constantly reinforcing and rewarding folks for vaccination, and making clear to unvaccinated folks – not only are they putting themselves and their family in danger, but they’re not going to have an opportunity to do a lot of things that they want to do," de Blasio said. "Because more and more, it’s gonna be only for vaccinated people."
