Drunk Driver Kills 3, Injures 7 After Crashing Into NYC Park: NYPD

A pickup truck was speeding through the Water Street and Jackson Street intersection​ when it ran a stop sign and struck people Thursday.

NEW YORK CITY — A drunk driver ran a stop sign and drove into a Manhattan park, killing three people and injuring 7 who were celebrating July 4th Thursday night, police said.

The incident happened around 9 p.m. at Corlears Hook Park in the Lower East Side, NYPD officials said.

The driver of a Ford F-150 pickup truck was speeding through the Water Street and Jackson Street intersection when it ran a stop sign and struck people, NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey said at a press conference.

Emergency responders found the truck on top of four victims, police said.

A 59-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Another victim was taken to a local hospital, where they succumbed to their wounds and was pronounced dead.

The driver of the pickup truck has been identified as Daniel Hyden, 44, according to multiple media reports. He has since been charged with DWI and is expected to face other charges.

Four other victims are facing life-threatening injuries, and an additional three are in serious condition, police said.
