Off-Duty NYPD Officer Charged With Driving Drunk In The Bronx

The off-duty cop was arrested around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, police said.

NEW YORK CITY — An off-duty New York City police officer was arrested on suspicion of driving drunk after a crash in the Bronx.

In a news release, NYPD said the officer, 39-year-old Hector Martinez was arrested around 2:31 a.m. in the department's 49th precinct and charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Driving While Ability Impaired: Alcohol.

Martinez was arrested after a crash with another car on Bruckner Expressway near Hutchinson River Parkway, a NYPD spokesperson said.

New York Daily News reports a passenger in Martinez's car, 28, and the driver of another car, also 28, were treated at Jacobi Hospital for pain. Martinez was also treated for neck pain.

The off-duty officer smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes, according to the report.
