Former NYC News Anchor Chris Burrous Found Dead In Cali Hotel

Los Angeles news anchor Chris Burrous, who once worked at PIX 11 in NYC, may have suffered a drug overdose, police said.

NEW YORK, NY — A Los Angeles news anchor who once worked at PIX 11 in New York City was found dead in a hotel this week, possibly from a drug overdose, according to Glendale Police.

Chris Burrous, 43, a KTLA morning news anchor, was discovered unresponsive at a Days Inn in Glendale after a man he was with called police at about 1:15 p.m. to report he had passed out and was not breathing, said Gendale Police.

First responders rushed to the hotel where they found Burrous inside suffering from a "medical emergency," Glendale Police Sgt. Dan Suttles told KTLA. The man with Burrous "appears to be a friend" and was performing CPR when paramedics responded, Suttles told the station.

Those on scene recognized the news anchor “right away, because everybody knows Chris," Suttles said.

Responders tried to revive Burrous with CPR before transporting him to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Burrous family. Chris loved sharing the stories of Southern California and connecting with our viewers," KTLA President and General Manager Don Corsini and News Director Jason Ball said in a statement.

"He will be remembered as a great journalist and a wonderful friend to many. He brought a kindness to his work and will be deeply missed by the entire KTLA family."

The local coroner’s office will determine the exact cause and manner of death. There was no indication of suicide and a police investigation is ongoing, Suttles added.

Burrous joined KTLA in 2011 as a reporter and anchor. He leaves behind a wife and nine-year-old daughter, according to KTLA.
