NEW YORK, NY — What’s better than ice cream on a hot summer's day in New York City? Free ice cream on a hot summer's day in New York City. And that's exactly what New Yorkers are going to get on July 16 for National Ice Cream Day.
Shops and restaurants throughout the country will offer sweet deals at participating locations, and Patch has the scoop.

The fast-food chain is offering free soft-serve ice cream cones throughout National Ice CreamDay for the first time. You’ll need to download the chain’s app to claim the free cone with a mobile coupon. One lucky person will receive the golden cone that entitles the winner to McDonald’s soft serve for life.

16 Handles

Grab a free, 4-ounce portion of the fro-yo chain’s three ice cream flavors by presenting the 16 Handles app to a cashier on July 16. Choose from vanilla, dutch chocolate or the limited-edition strawberry shortcake, a collaboration with Food Network’s Duff Goldman.
Häagen-Dazs at the Museum of Food and Drink
Where: 62 Bayard St.
Williamsburg's Museum of Food and Drink is celebrating National Ice Cream Day through its collaboration with Haagen-Dazs, stocking its freezer with pints of ice cream for giveaways on July 15 and July 16. Visitors will received a free individuals up while supplies last, but admission to the museum ranges from $7 to $14 for patrons ages 6 and older.

The burger joint's Chelsea location is offering free cones filled with locally sourced soft serve — chocolate, vanilla or a combination of the two — on Saturdays and Sundays throughout July in honor of National Ice Cream Month.
The OddFellows Carnival at Chefs Club Counter
Where: 62 Spring St.
Oddfellows is giving away 25 free soft-serve cones — with toppings such caramel popcorn, cotton candy, candied apricots — at its carnival-themed popup in NoLIta on July 16. Doors open at noon. Delve deeper into the Oddfellows inventory through the popup's Instagram stream.
PetSmart
Where: 632 Broadway
PetSmart rolled out "treat trucks" on July 12 to give away ice cream sundaes for dogs and their human friends. But on July 16, the pet supply chain invites furry and non-furry visitors to celebrate National Ice Cream Day with free sundaes all day long.
