NEW YORK CITY — 'Tis the season of giving and what better way to kick it off than with the New York City tradition that has since swept the globe: GivingTuesday.

This Tuesday, Nov. 29, is a chance to take a break from frantic family present-buying, recover from your Black Friday hangover and turn your attention to local nonprofit groups doing good work in your city.

GivingTuesday was created in 2012 to encourage people to engage in “radical generosity” — the concept that the suffering of others should be as intolerable to us as our own suffering, according to the movement’s website.

It may be difficult to find cash to donate after a long year of paying inflation prices, but do keep in mind that nonprofits also had a tough time.

The number of donors shrunk by 7 percent in the first half of 2022, largely due to a “collapse” in the number of small-gift supporters, according to the most recent GivingTuesday quarterly fundraising report.
