GOP Lawmaker's 'MAMDANI' Act Looks To Block Federal Funds To NYC
The proposed legislation by a congressman comes in response after Zohran Mamdani was elected mayor on Tuesday.
NEW YORK CITY — A GOP lawmaker is proposing legislation that would block federal funds from New York City in response to Zohran Mamdani being elected as mayor on Tuesday.
Rep. Buddy Carter of Georgia's new legislation is called the "MAMDANI Act" or the Moving American Money Distant from Anti-National Interests Act, according to a Tuesday post on X.
The bill states that during any period in which Zohran Mamdani is mayor of New York City any unobligated Federal funds available for the city "are hereby rescinded" and that no federal funds may be obligated or expended for any purpose to the city, according to FOX News Digital.

"If New Yorkers want communism, we should let them have their wish and not artificially prop them up with our successful capitalist system," Carter told FOX News Digital.
"A radical socialist is officially in charge of the biggest city in the country. If you’re a New Yorker, have any common sense, and recognize your conservative values are at risk, I invite you to relocate to the great state of Georgia!," Carter said in a separate post.

While the bill is unlikely to pass, Republicans nationally are positioning Mamdani as the next leader of the Democratic Party.
Mamdani will take office on Jan. 1 and has made several promises to voters about making the city more affordable, like making buses free and freezing the rent in rent-stabilized apartments.
