NYC Nears 23K COVID Cases In A Single Day: Data
The number of COVID-19 cases detected Wednesday is not only a record, it's 5,000 more than the day before, according to data.

NEW YORK CITY — A staggering 23,000 COVID-19 cases in New York City were detected Wednesday as the omicron variant spread like wildfire through the city, according to state data.
The single-day tally released Thursday by Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office is the latest in near-daily record-breaking streak of coronavirus case detections this week. It towers over the 8,000 daily cases detected in April 2020, when COVID-19 testing was less widespread.
"We are experiencing the winter surge, and numbers are expected to rise,” Hochul said in a statement.
