Hurricane Threat To NYC Fades As Gert Heads Out To Sea

Experts had feared the storm could develop a path that would have it make landfall.

NEW YORK CITY, NY – The first storm of the hurricane season to pose a threat to New York City is growing in strength, but churning on a path that is now swinging it out to sea.

Experts were last week watching a disturbance in the Caribbean that they feared could have developed into a hurricane with a path that had it making landfall somewhere on the east coast.

Tropical Storm Gert has gathered strength, but it's now being pulled north east which means it's expected to stay miles out to sea, having little effect on the shore, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration which monitors storms.
