Jessica Tisch Named As New NYPD Commissioner
Jessica Tisch will be the city's second female police commissioner.
NEW YORK CITY — Jessica Tisch, the city's current sanitation commissioner, will be named the NYPD's next police commissioner, Mayor Eric Adams announced Wednesday.
Tisch will take over for Thomas Donlon who took over in the post in September but quickly became embroiled in controversy after the FBI raided his apartment following his appointment.
Tisch will become the fourth police commissioner under the Adams administration.

A 12-year veteran of the police department, Tisch thanked Adams for "the tremendous honor to now lead the NYPD."
"I understand the solemnity of this great responsibility. It is now my distinct honor to advance Mayor Adams’ vision of fighting crime and disorder; keeping our great city safe and vibrant; protecting all New Yorkers, including our officers who put their lives on the line every day, she said.

Adams said the NYPD needs a "strong, battle-tested leader who will continue to drive down crime and ensure New Yorkers are safe and feel safe."
PBA President Patrick Hendry mentioned that the challenges confronting police officers on the street have remained the same through numerous changes in the NYPD’s leadership:
"We are critically understaffed, massively overworked, and completely unsupported by a justice system and an oversight regime that care more about punishing cops than helping us get dangerous criminals off the streets," Hendry said in a statement.
"We hope to partner with Commissioner Tisch to make real progress on these issues as quickly as possible. The future of the NYPD and the entire city depends on it.”
Tisch is expected to be sworn in on next Monday, officials said.
