July 4 NYC Transit Changes: Extra Commuter Trains, Subway Changes
The subways and commuter trains will be running on modified service schedules leading up to and on July 4.

NEW YORK, NY — New Yorkers will be on the move for July 4, whether it's to the suburbs or to the city beaches, and the MTA is modifying its service in an attempt to best shuttle everyone off to their holiday celebrations.
The MTA will add "getaway train" service on its commuter rail lines such as the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad on Wednesday to help people flee the city for the holiday. Both commuter rail agencies will run on a weekend schedule during the July 4 holiday, so the getaway trains may be the best bet.
There's also good news for drivers. MTA Bridges and Tunnels will suspend scheduled maintenance work starting at 1 p.m. on Wednesday until the end of the morning rush hour on Friday, July 5 due to an expected increase in congestion on the roads.
