NEW YORK, NY — Kate Spade's father died Wednesday night, the day before the late fashion designer's funeral, according to a family statement. Earl F. "Frank" Brosnahan Jr. was "heartbroken" over his daughter's suicide earlier this month before the 89-year-old died himself at his home in Kansas City, Missouri, his family said in a statement to "Good Morning America."
"He had been in failing health of late and was heartbroken over the recent death of his beloved daughter," the family said.
Hundreds of mourners attended Spade's Thursday afternoon funeral in her hometown of Kansas City, according to the Kansas City Star.
