Stuck LIRR Train Causes Penn Station Delays

An Amtrak train stuck in an East River tunnel is snarling commutes.

NEW YORK, NY — An Amtrak train stuck in an East River tunnel is causing Wednesday morning delays on Long Island Rail Road trains to and from Penn Station. LIRR service was briefly halted in both directions from 9:16 to 9:25 a.m.

A problem with tracks maintained by Amtrak also contributed to the service suspension, which is now causing residual delays between Penn Station and Jamaica Station in Queens, according to LIRR alerts. The railroad plans to cancel some Manhattan-bound trains from Jamaica.

Westbound commuters can transfer at Jamaica to a train bound for Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn and take the 2 or 3 subway train to Penn Station, the LIRR said.
