Man With $1K In Wallet Dies After Brutal BK Mugging: Reports, Cops

NEW YORK CITY — A Brooklyn man with $1,000 in his wallet died after a brutal mugging outside a deli, according to police and reports.

The death of John Sarquiz, 55, has been ruled a homicide, NYPD officials said.

Sarquiz clung to life for five days in a hospital after a mugger sucker-punched and kicked him in the head March 29 outside Dean Mini Market along 13th Avenue near 73rd Street in Dyker Heights, the New York Daily News reported.

The attack unfolded shortly before 8 p.m. and left Sarquiz unconscious with head trauma, police said. He had $1,000 in his wallet, the Daily News first reported, but it’s unclear whether mugger grabbed it.

Sarquiz died Monday in NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, police said.
