NEW YORK CITY — A man faces a murder charge after he shot a woman friend in broad daylight along a Queens street, prosecutors said.

Tariek Sykes, 34, appeared in court Wednesday for arraignment on the charge, said Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz.

He's accused of killing Sydney Lugo, 24, who suffered a fatal gunshot to her chest, authorities said.

"As alleged, the defendant senselessly shot the victim over an argument, killing her," Katz said.

Sykes and Lugo, who were friends, argued about 9:30 a.m. in front of 119-11 109th Ave, near 120th Street in Richmond Hill, authorities said.

But the argument turned deadly when Skyes pulled a gun and fired a shot at Lugo, hitting her in the arm and chest and killing her, prosecutors said.

NYPD officers responded and found a 9mm pistol loaded with one round of ammunition in the chamber and two more bullets in a magazine, authorities said.

Police took Skyes into custody, and prosecutors quickly levied murder and weapons charges against him, authorities said.

Sykes, if convicted, faces up to 25 years in prison.
