Man Gets 22-Year Sentence In Mother's 2019 Manhattan Murder: DA
Jared Eng, 25, slashed his mother's throat in their Tribeca apartment and hid her body in New Jersey in 2019, prosecutors said.
NEW YORK CITY — Jared Eng once texted "I'm free" after fatally slashing his mother Paula Chin's throat inside a Tribeca apartment, authorities said.
But Eng lost his freedom Wednesday when a judge sentenced him to 22 years to life in prison for the 2019 murder, said Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
“This sentencing finally closes a challenging chapter for this family and their loved ones,” Bragg said in a statement.

Eng pleaded guiltyto second-degree murder in September — a long-awaited admission to a case that began when Chin's body was found stuffed in a garbage container in New Jersey.
Investigators zeroed in on Eng, who shared a Tribeca apartment with Chin.

They suspected he beat Chin and slashed her throat inside the apartment during a February 2019 fight over his deceased father's fortune.
A probe found Eng sent a series of text messages around the time of his mother's death in which he wrote, “It’s done,” “I’m free” and that he got rid of his “problem,” prosecutors said. Authorities said they also found he changed passwords on his mother’s bank accounts, searched for inheritance lawyers and Googled “diy bone meal" while apparently researching way to get rid of a body.
