NEW YORK CITY — Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg sued Rep. Jim Jordan to block what a lawsuit deemed " brazen and unconstitutional" interference against the criminal case against former President Donald Trump.

In a 50-page lawsuit filed Tuesday in federal court, Bragg accused Jordan of waging a "transparent campaign to intimidate and attack" him through demands for confidential documents and testimony.

Jordan is using his House Judiciary Committee to carry water for Trump, who has threatened Bragg and other New York officials with "violent and racist vitriol" that have resulted in death threats, the lawsuit contends.

"Chairman Jordan claims he is seeking to conduct 'oversight,'" the lawsuit states. "But he has no power under the Constitution to oversee
state and local criminal matters. By definition, then, he has no legitimate legislative purpose for issuing this subpoena."

The complaint came a day after Jordan announced he plans to hold a "field hearing" in New York City focused on what he labeled as Bragg's pro-crime, anti-victim" policies.

The filing by Bragg contends Jordan's hearing is part of an ever-changing "scattershot hodgepodge" of approaches with one goal in mind: undermining the case against Trump.

Bragg, in his lawsuit, asked federal judges to block a subpoena for a former Manhattan prosecutor to testify in front of Jordan's House Judiciary Committee.

"The subpoena threatens the sovereign powers of the States, confidence in the secrecy of grand jury proceedings, and the integrity of an ongoing criminal prosecution," the lawsuit states.
