The Social Security Administration has revealed the state's most popular baby names.
NEW YORK – Liams and Emmas born in 2018 are going to grow up with a lot of company in New York.
The two names topped the Social Security Administration's annual list of the most popular – which revealed they were also the nation's favorite last year.
Liam is a common pick in New York – it was also the most popular name in 2017. Emma has ranked highly for several years, but was beaten into second spot by Olivia in 2017.

New York's top five baby names for boys in 2018 are:
Liam -1,509
Noah - 1,268
Jacob -1,010
Lucas - 996
Ethan - 968

New York's top five baby names for girls in 2018 are:
Emma, 1,095
Olivia, 1,083
Isabella, 1,001
Sophia, 963
Mia, 863
According to the agency, Jacob and Abigail — two names that have been longtimers on the list — dropped out of the top 10 for the first time since 1992 and 2000, respectively.
Nationally, the top 10 baby names for boys in 2018 were:

- Oliver
- Benjamin
- Elijah
- Lucas
- Mason
- Logan
For girls, the top 10 baby names for 2018 were:
- Emma
- Olivia
- Ava
- Isabella
- Sophia
- Charlotte
- Mia
- Amelia
- Harper
- Evelyn
The Social Security Administration began compiling the list in 1997, with names dating back to 1880. The agency also notes that popular culture influences baby names.
In 2018, parents appeared to have been influenced by Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex. Meghan was the fastest rising girls' name in 2018.
