NY Metro Area Is Nation's Top Apartment Builder, Set To Add 30K In 2025: New Report
Nearly half of the new apartments in the New York metro area are set to open in three city boroughs.
NEW YORK CITY — The New York metro area has remained the nation's busiest builder for the fourth year in a row — with the city and surrounding areas expected to add more than 30,000 new apartments this year, according to a new report.
Leading the way in the metro area, is Brooklyn, which is set to complete 7,189 units, according to a report by RentCafe. Manhattan comes in second with 4,662 and followed by Queens with 2,630.
The Bronx and Staten Island were not included in the New York metro data set.

Also in the metro area, suburban locations in New Jersey account for the bulk of new construction.
Newark is in the lead with 1,392 estimated units, followed by Hackensack (917 units) and Bayonne (767 units). On the New York state side, New Rochelle is expected to complete 662 units and Yonkers is on track to add 445 units.

Nationwide, more than half a million apartments are expected to enter the market, with 56,521 units or 11 percent located in the Northeast.
The Dallas metro area comes in second among the nation’s top metros for new apartment construction in 2025, according to the report. Austin comes in third place with Phoenix, AZ and Atlanta, GA rounding out the top five.
