NYC Ferry Service Halted Amid Nor'easter Storm

NEW YORK, NY — Powerful winds and rain from Friday's nor'easter storm forced the NYC Ferry to suspend service before most of the evening rush hour. Some routes have already stopped running boats, while the last trip on all others is scheduled to leave before 5 p.m., the service announced late Friday afternoon.

"Due to severe weather conditions as a result of the Nor’easter, all NYC Ferry service is temporarily suspended for the remainder of the day," the service wrote on its website.

Ferries will start running regularly again at noon Saturday, the service said.

The New York Waterway ferry service also canceled the 5 p.m., 7:15 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. runs on its Belford route between Manhattan and New Jersey.

The halt in ferry service was the latest mass transit disruption caused by the storm, which was brought wind gusts as strong as 60 MPH and posed a risk of coastal flooding in some parts of the city.

Several subway lines were running with delays or service changes as of 4:17 p.m. Friday. All but two Long Island Rail Road lines were facing delays, at that time as were all but three Metro-North Railroad Lines.
