NYC Labor Day Transit Changes: Commuter Rail, Parade Service
The MTA is adding service on commuter rail lines on Friday to help New Yorkers escape the city for Labor Day weekend.

NEW YORK, NY — New Yorkers will have an easier time getting out of the city and a tougher time getting around the city this labor day weekend due to a number of service changes on MTA subways and commuter rail lines, the transit authority announced.
The MTA is beefing up service on the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad in an effort to help New Yorkers get out to the suburbs and beaches for the long weekend, officials said. On Friday the LIRR will run 11 extra afternoon trains from Penn Station and Jamaica, and Metro-North will offer 17 extra afternoon trains from Grand Central Terminal.
Service changes on city buses and subways kick in on Monday. The MTA will institute a Sunday schedule for the holiday, which means that the subway and bus lines that don't run on weekends won't be running an extra day.
