NEW YORK CITY — A 23-year-old man has pled guilty to the attempted murder of a NYPD officer back in 2023, according to the Queens District Attorney.
Devin Spraggins shot and injured Officer Brett Boller while he was trying to break up a fight between the defendant and another passenger on an MTA bus in Queens, prosecutors said.
Spraggins has also been convicted of assault, aggravated assault of a police officer and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, among other charges.

"Devin Spraggins attempted to assassinate a New York City police officer in cold blood in April 2023, after he was stopped by cops for fighting with another passenger on an MTA bus. The defendant shot Police Officer Brett Boller at point-blank range, and it is only because of extraordinary medical intervention that Officer Boller is alive today, and this is not a murder case," District Attorney Melinda Katz said.
Spraggins faces up to 40 years to life in prison for the attempted murder charge, prosecutors said.

"This case could not have been any clearer. This individual was carrying a loaded gun on our streets. He attacked an innocent bus passenger for no reason. He was determined to get away with those crimes at any cost, even if it meant murdering a New York City police officer. He didn’t succeed thanks to the courage and skill of our brother Brett Boller and his fellow police officers. We’re grateful that he is being held accountable with this verdict. Now he must receive the longest sentence the law allows," PBA President Patrick Hendry said.
Spraggins will be sentenced on Dec. 2.
