NYC Mom Immerses Daughter In Many Cultures, Backgrounds

NEW YORK CITY, NY— Moms do so much for everyone around them. We try to celebrate them all year long, but Mother's Day is a perfect opportunity to shout it from the rooftops and post it on Patch: Mom rocks!

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize the awesome moms and mom figures in communities like yours.

This submission comes from Heather White Godfrey who nominated Ximena Salgado of New York City.

What makes this mom extra special?

Ximena works a full-time job as a program director, runs her own dance company and dances while being an incredibly thoughtful and present single mom to her one-year-old. She is intentional in her gentle parenting approach and integrates her daughter into every aspect of her life — even dancing on stage with her — allowing her to see that her mother is a strong, loving, driven, joyful, independent woman. Her daughter is exposed daily to artists of all kinds, to people of all cultural backgrounds, and to people making things out of nothing. She could have no better role model!

Why do you feel this mom deserves the spotlight?

Ximena has worked tirelessly to continue to be excellent in her career and not let anyone down while being such a loving and intentional mom. She is an immigrant from Peru and raising her child here far away from her family.
