NYC Nor'easter: Winter Storm Warning Issued As Snow Approaches

Here's the latest look at how much snow will blanket New York City on Wednesday.

NEW YORK, NY — Another nor'easter is ready to dump up to a foot of snow on parts of the New York City region Wednesday, making for rough commutes and posing a renewed risk of power outages and other damage, forecasters say.

Nine inches of snow are likely to accumulate in Central Park after the flakes start falling early Wednesday morning, though there's a chance up to 14 inches could fall, according to National Weather Service estimates.

The snow will be heaviest through Wednesday afternoon and early evening — 4.6 inches are expected to fall from 1 to 7 p.m., the NWS forecast shows. The city will be under a winter storm warning from 10 p.m. Tuesday until 4 a.m. Thursday as the storm blows through.

"Travel will be very difficult to impossible, including during the evening commute on Wednesday," the National Weather Service warns. "Be prepared for significant reductions in visibility at times."

A high temperature near 36 degrees is expected Wednesday, with winds as strong as 22 MPH making it feel as cold as 20 degrees, the NWS says. Sunshine will return and temperatures will rise into the mid-40s on Thursday after the storm is gone, the NWS forecast shows.

The storm is expected to hit less than a week after a powerful nor'easter slammed the region on Friday. Four counties in the Hudson Valley area are still under a state of emergency as the new storm approaches, Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office said late Monday night.

Wednesday's storm will won't be as powerful as last week's, but it's still likely to hamper recovery efforts in the Northeast as heavy snow blankets much of the region, according to AccuWeather.

"The big problem is that the storm this week is coming so soon after the destructive storm from last Friday," meteorologist Alex Sosnowski told AccuWeather. "It will disrupt cleanup and restoration operations and is likely to cause a new but less extreme round of travel delays, power outages and damage from falling trees."
