Tuscany comes to the East Village in the form of Fiaschetteria Pistoia, which opened this spring. According to its Facebook page, Fiaschetteria Pistoia is a place to taste authentic imported Italian wines while dining on traditional Tuscan cuisine amid “an atmosphere that calls those values that belong to generations of Italian table lovers.”
Fiaschetteria Pistoia offers outdoor seating, reservations or walk-ins and the option of takeout.
Levain Bakery
Neighborhood: Upper West Side
Address: 351 Amsterdam Ave.
It began with a simple mission between two friends: create the world’s greatest chocolate chip cookie.
Whether Levain Bakery accomplishes such a vision is for readers to decide, but the bakery recently opened a second Upper West Side location on June 28 as a follow-up to its original site in Harlem, another on West 74th Street and a third in the Hamptons. Treat your tastebuds to muffins, scones, a variety of fresh breads or the bakery’s famous cookies.
Madre Mezcaleria
Neighborhood: Prospect Heights
Address: 706 Washington Ave.
Prospect Heights’ Madre Mezcaleria is a bar first and foremost, but that’s not all you’ll find being served at the new venue, open since February and situated next door to its predecessor, El Atoradero. Led by chef Denisse Lina Chavez, who is also a partner at El Atoradero, Madre Mezcaleria offers oysters, ceviches and toastadas. Talavera tiles decorate the space, brought back from Mexico by Chavez herself.
Sushi by Boū
Neighborhood: Midtown
Address: 132 W 47th St.
Sushi by Boū presents and answers a singular question: What does a young Jewish guy from Florida know about sushi?
Sushi by Boū founder David Bouhadana stumbled into the world of sushi as an 18-year-old waiter in Boca Raton and trained in the Kansai region of Japan to perfect his craft, subsequently building his reputation in the kitchens of local restaurants Sushi Uo and Morimoto. Starting July 10, customers can try a 30-minute omakase — a meal consisting of dishes selected by the chef — at Sushi by Boū’s newest location beneath The Sanctuary Hotel.
Egg Shop
Neighborhood: Williamsburg
Address: 138 North Eighth St.
Egg Shop, whose first location is nestled in the Nolita section of Manhattan, opened up a second in June. Husband-and-wife team Demetri Makoulis and Sarah Schneider offer a 60-seat space with eggy options such as a smoked salmon scramble on an everything biscuit and an egg, avocado and pork carnitas bowl. Happy hour is a daily occasion from 4 to 7 p.m., serving frozen margaritas and other summertime nectar.
