NEW YORK CITY — It'll take a Christmas miracle for New Yorkers' pre-holiday travel plans to come through, the latest forecast shows.

New York City is under a hazardous weather outlook ahead of Grinch-like weather Thursday and especially Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

A passing cold front Friday — part of a massive "major winter storm" anticipated to wreak pre-holiday havoc across the nation — could bring damaging winds that down trees and power lines, the outlook states.

New Yorkers looking to get out of town Friday ahead of Christmas will be met with "poor" travel conditions, AccuWeather reported.

And New York City won't even get the worst of the storm.

Millions in the Midwest will see a pre-Christmas blizzard with 12 inches of powdery snow, high winds and rapidly falling freezing temperatures, AccuWeather reported.

"Travel could be totally shut down in Chicago by the storm from late Thursday to Friday," said Bernie Rayno, AccuWeather's chief on-air meteorologist, in the service's report.
